In Australia, BUPA are promoting the benefits of group singing, using a raft of extensive research in their ‘Shine’ magazine, suggesting a strong route to find employees solutions to the building stress levels, and help in the cyclic thought patterns that is created in the customer facing workplace.

Last year, Heart Research UK used their website to encourage people to sing, recognising this link between singing and health.

Undoubtedly there is a huge relief based in singing in groups; heart rates synchronise, relaxation is encouraged, and the necessary breathing techniques bring with them the extra oxygenation that helps improve a feeling of calm. But why does breathing help so much? We normally use as little as 15-20% of our lung capacity.

Much meditation is based on breathing deeply; singing does the same, but offers the other benefits of lifting self-esteem, offering a general feeling of well-being, and the feeling of belonging to a community.
